Ah, excellent points. I suppose if you have that many peripherals, it would make sense to have more usb ports. The only peripheral I use on my PS3 on a regular basis besides the charging cable is my Hori fighting stick.

As for the X360, mine has 3 in the back and 2 in front behind the flap. I don’t even use them for charging controllers since I use rechargeable AA batteries. They’re only good for transferring stuff on a thumbdrive, or on occasion I actually use them to charge my PSP if I know I am going to be playing on my Xbox for some time. The irony…

This model is obviously for people who dont have one yet as all new ps3’s are meant.

Of course some will replace broken ones. Some might replace working ones. Some will purchase this in addition to the one they have or in my case in addition to the 2 I have. 1 downstairs, 1 upstairs and one in the playroom for the kid.

I know MS has trained gamers this gen that a redesigned console or even a slight revision in the chipset constitutes reason enough to replace your old faulty box for a new one but Sony typically makes a dependable machine so I have a hard time understanding the “I wont buy this b/c I dont need to replace my system” crowd.

Replacing a working system is not why this “super slim” was made so why make the statement as if you are bucking a trend or going against societal norms?

The 250gb model releasing in NA on 9/25/12 is a bundle only option for now and will be priced at $269.99.

Also a not about the EUR 12gb Flash memory model: you can buy a proprietary 2.5″ SATA HDD bracket and then insert any size HDD you want or you can buy the 250GB Sony branded HDD that appears to be sold separately.

I’m going to use your typical response here:

1. Just b/c you have 5/6 usb ports you dont use doesnt mean others dont need them.

2. When did MS start providing 5 or 6 USB ports on their machine?
Last dead 360 I had which was my 6th or 7th one, kinda lost count after awhile….it had a usb on back which my $100 wifi adapter used and two usb ports on the front behind that ridiculous plastic flap. Outside of charging a controller they were useless.

Now, to answer your question as to why one would need more than 2 ports on the PS3:
In my case I keep a charge cable plugged in at all times as me, my wife and my kid all have our own controllers. From random recharges to sometimes having to resync the controller I leave it plugged in.

I also leave the the usb adapter for my kids Skylanders portal plugged in at all times as its very small and annoying to take in and out every other day.

I also leave the PS Eye plugged in at all times.

Lastly, I keep my wireless surround sound sony headphones usb adapter plugged in as well.

That is 4 ports in use all the time on my PS3 and I have other devices I cycle in and out from my Mortal Kombat usb arcade sticks, my hot shot rifle, and my external HDD full of movies and shows that I frequently use. When I break those out I unplug something else.

I have a slim and lasted 2 days before bying a Nyko adapter to turn the paltry two ports into 4.

Obviously mine is a personal experience but I am sure there are many more like me who use lots of USB devices.

I’m curious why you need more. It would be nice to have 3 usb ports, but my Xbox comes with 5 or 6 that I have absolutely no use for.

Well, if you already had a PS3 – and you were then choosing between a brand new system or one you already owned – I’d think it would be a pretty easy choice.

It’s neat that PAL regions get a Flash Memory option. Though not sure why that’s not available in all regions.

Booooooooo this is a PS3 article get out. Just playing, I probably get the Wii U when the price comes down. Its just not worth paying $300 – $350 for it.
