Microsoft usually refers to the Spartan Ops as multiplayer, though.

I just can't think of any reason for the multiplayer to need 8 gigabytes of space. That's far more than the save data and user settings could take up. They have to be saving space for something.

Regardless, the website never uses the word install. It never even hints that it will be putting data onto the hard drive or flash drive. It just says that you need one. Saying that it will require an install is making an assumption. An assumption with no proper basis considering the Halo franchise's history of requiring a hard drive for online play(although, previously, you only needed a hard drive for co-operative online play), without the need for the game to actually put data onto your hard drive for said online play.

Not just Halo 4, it's also Halo: Reach and, I believe, Halo: ODST as well that won't work with an arcade unit.

It's not right or fair for this to be required, I'm just saying that it doesn't mean an install is what the space is being used for.

EDIT: Reach originally needed a hard drive for co-op, I can't find a definitive answer on ODSt.

@Acidicsam:
And the above comment is what I refer to as M$pin.

A feeble attempt to distract from the point at hand. A person with an arcade unit cannot play Halo 4 multiplayer without the mandatory purchase of additional storage space.

I wouldn't think so.

From Xbox.com: "At a minimum, you’ll need at least an 8GB USB Flash Drive or an Xbox 360 Hard Drive to play Multiplayer mode in Halo 4."

Clearly says "to play Multiplayer mode." I'd doubt it's for Spartan Ops, especially considering that only the first season will be free.

As far as the title of this article being misleading, I can't agree. Be technical all you want, but in the end, you're still putting 8GB of data on your hard drive. I believe most of us associate installs with storing data on a hard drive, rather than sitting back and waiting for data to finish copying to the hard drive, anyhow.

Just my thoughts, anyway.

The actual website doesn't say anything an install.

It just says you need 8 gbs of space. It's possible its for the game to make sure it has space for the free weekly installments of Spartan Ops.

Some companies build quality game consoles and release good games on them, other companies do the exact opposite and build Xbox's.

And people complain about mandatory ps3 installs.

At least the ps3 library has exactly zero games that require an install bigger than the smallest hard drive size sony has ever released.

Arcade console owners are now REQUIRED to purchase additional storage.
Not sure how this falls under the MS creedo of giving the consumer a choice.
It was asinine for MS to release a console this gen without a hard drive and frankly it has held the entire generation back with devs having to fit an MS requirement to cater to the lowest common denominator in the xbox userbase: the hard driveless buffoon.
