Sony has announced Wonderbook during its E3 press conference tonight.
The PlayStation 3 application take books and brings them to life via the PlayStation Eye and Move peripherals.
Moonbot Studios is developing Diggs Nightcrawler for the platform. And Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is creating Book of Spells for Wonderbook.
Book of Spells makes the PlayStation Move the player’s wand. Reading the book, the player will learn a variety of spells, the same spells those who study at Hogwarts would learn. A demo of the “Fire-Making Spell” given on-stage saw a dragon fly out of the book and set it on fire, leaving the player to put it out, then wipe the dust off with his hands. Another demo showed a paper theater, which depicts the discovery (and history, essentially) of the spell, “Windguardian Leviosa.”
Book of Spells is due in November.
