I think 343 needs to show something impressive at e3. This isn't a Bungie project anymore, and lots of fans are still very skeptical.

About the milking of the franchise -

I'm not so sure I agree, but I do see where others might see it that way. I think it depends on what milking the franchise means to you, personally.

The reason people get upset about Call of Duty, for example... is because they basically recycle the same game every year. The single player just gets worse, and the additions to multiplayer are not worth a 60 price tag.

Halo 3 was Bungie's conclusion to the Halo saga, the story of master chief. ODST was a spin off, it improved the engine, had a brand new story not featuring master chief, and brought in new multiplayer/co-op modes/features.

Reach was the final Halo game from Bungie, they improved the engine again, and it was a prequel. Like ODST it had a new story, characters, and brought new additions to multiplayer.

All of the above games had improvements, and great single player campaigns, as well as multiplayer improvements.

Yes, they all had Halo in the title, but they were not recycled games with nothing new to add. Bungie treated each title with respect, and wanted the fans to be pleased.

(I'll quickly touch on Halo Wars... It was a strategy console game based in the Halo universe. It was not developed by Bungie. Considering it was a rts, it would be hard to say Halo Wars was anything like Halo 3.)

Now that Bungie is finished with the series, a new studio at Microsoft, 343 Industries, has decided to continue the franchise.

What they do with the franchise could result in it becoming the next milked franchise, much to the disgust of fans worldwide.

I don't think anyone wants that to happen, which is why 343 is under lots of pressure to deliver a new halo, that has been treated with the same respect that Bungie treated the franchise with, and retains the same high quality fans have come to expect.

What happens next is up to them, and if they decide to just start recycling the games, like CoD is doing, then yes, they would be milking the franchise.

If a game is milking a franchise just by having the name in the title, then a ton of great games would be "milking the franchise."

I think it's just depends on a persons personal perspective here, what they think milking a franchise is.

I explained what I think it is above.

Disagree, there been Halo ever too and yeah I would include the HD title because it is milking. How many major franchises get pumped out so often? Not many at all? We have Halo 3, Halo Wars, Halo ODST, and Halo Reach all in one generation and there not even done yet. I am excited about the title but its still coming out way too often.
