sorry for being harsh but the dedicated handhelds are getting a bad rap for basically nothing. They are number 1, outselling consoles and have never been more popular.

Only 1 developer has ever said anythign about the end of portables and that company is in microsofts stable.

I appreciate you pointing this out, Stealth, but there’s no need to jump on the negativity train and call the article “really poor”. There’s actually reason behind this mishap.

As you’ve quoted, I originally wrote the article with “analysts and developers alike have already begun speculation…” in its body. Before publishing, I Google-searched for the analyst bit, as I could’ve sworn I remembered seeing it somewhere. Alas, I was wrong, and did not find anything.

So I replaced that bit with: “other developers have already begun speculation…” And of course, at that moment, Firefox 4 decides to crash on me. Thank heavens for Session Restore, though, which brought back the post page and all of its contents. Or so I thought. So I hit publish and called it a day.

If you hadn’t already guessed, Session Restore seems to have brought back my original wording rather than my post-Google search wording. It’s since been fixed.

Next time, maybe try and point it out nicely? “Hey Sal, there seems to be a mix up in this bit.” “Oh, okay. Thanks for pointing that out!” I work very hard to maintain this blog and keep it in tip-top shape, so please, help me help you — positively.

Here are the real facts. Only 1 developer has said that, and that developer happens to be in apples pocket. And not 1 analyst has said that.

Dedicated handhelds are number 1 in each market right now.

Those are the kind of predictions that we look back on in 20 years or so and laugh at what people were thinking. Kind of like when the commissioner of the U.S. patent office during 1899 said “everything that could be invented has been invented.”
