I personally think it's an excellent game from beginning to end, and whether it's the same Castlevania we played in the 80's or not is moot. Its a highly polished, very exciting game and Im really pleased to see it doing well!

In reply to <a href="https://www.gematsu.com/2010/11/castlevania-lords-of-shadows-ships-a-million#comment-29912">FAUNA</a>.

yeah i kinda wish it was IGA-San's team who did the artwork and story. Ayame Kojima's Curse of Darkness art would fit perfectly in this, while Michuru Yamane soundtrack is Godly. IGA would produce 1999 great battle(where dracula is defeated the final time) and mercury studios would just handle the gameplay. that would have been the perfect 3D castlevania for me.

at least this did good in the west, let's see how this performs well in japan.

Feel free to ignore the "This isn't a Castlevania" whiners out there.

Some extended research reveals a lot of information about the tough transition it had into becoming the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow that it is today.

It's Alpha stage was basically Simon Belmont coming out of Castlevania, it later changed to Gabriel Belmont with a take-no-prisoner attitude similar to Reinhart from Castlevania 64, though the title went on and off, the popular theory is that it was done so as to not impede the sales of the somewhat mediocre fighting game Castlevania Judgement (After all, why buy a mediocre castlevania if you know that a better 3D one is on it's way?). Probably also to judge people's reaction to the hype and whatnot... There's also the fact that the first teaser trailer nevertheless contained the Holy Water flasks, the Dagger subweapons and an armor which is based off of one of the armor designs for one of the earlier Belmonts.

Kojima then went in and aided in providing the more human and dramatic elements, as well as provide an interesting plot twist or two thanks to his changes on Gabriel's character (for better or worse).

I will also tell you, to all those who didn't play the game. To help you clear up some of the confusion for the post-credit.

Read Gabriel's profile, keep an eye out for his roots, then look up Castlevania Lament of Innocence. You should be able to tie up the loose ends...
