It's an interesting thing you mention that the new motion control features on PS3/360 could add years to the consoles life span.

I know Sony have always been aiming for a 10 year life cycle... There console is already 4 years old but does 3D and Motion Control. And their massive punt on Blu-ray which paid off big time. So they really thought ahead with it.

I was really hoping when rumours of Microsoft's motion control were coming out that it would be a new console from them.. I would have been pretty excited about that.

I think they're being optimistic when they say Kinect will add '5 years to the lifespan' of the 360.

The way things are, if Microsoft don't release a new console... Nintendo certainly won't see a need to start the next gen... We could see this gen last a long time.

We had a midnight launch over here.. I live in a city with ~60,000 people - and to have a midnight launch is a big thing in such a small spot.

On a personal level, no game could interest me less, but good for them, I guess.

On a positive note it could mean that our economic stance as a nation is starting to improve. We're far from healed but it could mean we're at least getting better.

Or it could it be that the Call of Duty name holds more weight in the gaming community? Either way it's good for gaming.

Not to get too off topic but think about this current console generation. The 360 was released in 2005 with the PS3 and Wii one year later. Not that consoles have been around for centuries but typically after 5 years we're already saving our nickels and dimes for the next console. Heck Microsoft ditched the original Xbox after only 4 years.

But thanks to Nintendo's motion gaming phenomenon the PS3 and 360 are being reborn through motion controls. Not to mention that Sony and Microsoft are so busy packing more and more features onto the consoles (ESPN, MLB/NHL channels, Netflix, Facebook, etc) that we could very well be playing these things well into 2012 before we even get a small glimpse of what's next from Sony and Microsoft.
