I don’t doubt Netflix is the future but I believe it will continue to compliment physical media because I don’t think anyone really wants to depend on the internet for all of their movies.

I know I don’t and for those that say they do all it will take is one major crash of a system for them to realize that physical media still rules. Just ask a Sidekick owner if they still have faith in the cloud.

Just think about the amount of times a company’s internet service has gone down because of a faulty router, patch cable or some other interface cable. Now imagine gathering the family around the TV to watch the latest movie but your ISP losing connection for a few hours.

I could go on and on but the point is that I think Netflix and other online entertainment sites will flourish over the next few years but I believe that physical media is here to stay and that’s a good thing.

Besides, Netflix doesn’t even offer HD yet so until they do I don’t mind the PS3 not having the service yet since one of Sony’s feather in their cap is that the system has had an HD focus from the start. Adding an SD only service to the PS3 wouldn’t really do much. So until Netflix goes HD my computer is good enough, which by the way when they do go HD you just know the price is gonna go up. I think they’ll eventually have an HD only subscription that will probably be way more than the current SD online video and mailed disc pricing so they can pay for the servers responsible for streaming massive amounts of data.

I think Netflix is the future of on Demand video and only makes sense to be on as many formats as they can. Look at all these Movie rental machines that you see popping up at every 7/11 in town, That should put the final bullet in Blockbuster! The closet one to me NEVER seems to have anybody in it.

Next there will be Video game sales/rentals machines like that. I see that 7/11 is now taking video game pre-orders and selling to top ten or so games. I’d rather drive a 1/2 mile to 7/11 than 15 to the closest Gamestop for a game thats the same price.Not to mention I can get it at 7/11at 3:00am.

Don’t hold your breath for the PS3 just yet. They could be talking about the Wii or even the iPhone.

Netflix hasn’t been shy about their plans to release their service on all network connected devices. Of course it would be great to have Netflix show up on the PS3. I just hope that Sony does a good job with the interface. The one good thing that Sony has going for them with the XMB is that not every application has to look exactly the same meaning the interface could emulate the website or even the PSN Store giving you the ability to search and see movies better categorized than the NXE version.

What really makes me think that this new announcement isn’t the PS3 is because no one’s leaked the information.
