I didn't mind 3.0's new What's New until I read Steven Shaw's post in the forums and his comment about the fact that it's bulking up the XMB almost unnecessarily. Sure you get the I-didn't-ask-for-that-feature Recently Played tiles with the last three games you played but they could've made another game icon for that or found another way to launch those games. And if you think about it's a little silly.

I would like to think that Sony wants more people buying games on Blu-ray rather than downloading but this Recently Played section would suggest quick access to games that don't require you to load the disc since the game tile is all but useless unless the disc is in the drive.

But the new friends list is a huge turn off. It was a shock the first time I saw it and it took some getting used to. My first reaction was, "This is an excellent space for trophy information" and thought maybe they'll use that space for that someday but why bother making these huge gray boxes unless the feature was ready right away? If the gray boxes are there to support trophy information then keep the gray boxes for when that feature is ready. Had the trophy information been added then I don't think you'd have quite as much uproar as you're having now.

Still, good to know they're "looking into it". Let's hope we don't have to wait until next year to see some improvements.

I think almost everything about 3.0 was awesome, especially the dynamic themes. Still missing cross-game chat of course.

When I say almost, I am referring to the user list of course. It's horrible and really not up to Sony's usual design standards. The rest of 3.0 is awesome.
