E3 ’09: Final Fantasy XIV focusing on real-time battle, more
Some more information regarding Final Fantasy XIV is coming in thanks to a new interview with 4Gamer.
The name of the continent that the heroes were on in the trailer is called Eorza, it is not the name of the world. The name of the world in the game is Hadeln. The game will sport some science fiction elements such as in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XIII, Square saying that the game will be a different type of Final Fanatsy in comparison to Final Fantasy XI.
Since PlayOnline is out of the picture, the game will be using a Square Enix ID account system as a replacement. A 30-day payment system will be in tact, but no announced prices. Square Enix is thinking about adding in a character transfer service from Final Fantasy XI, however.
While Square Enix haven’t announced any new races yet, all the races from Final Fantasy XI will join Final Fantasy XIV as well.
Regarding the game’s job system, weapon elements will be added to the system to enrich it. A high level job system will be in tact. Apparently, there will not be any experience points in Final Fantasy XIV. The game’s selling point is growth.
Square Enix says that the battle system will focus more on real time and that timing will be a very important factor in the game. The barrier-like field cast in the trailer is part of the battle system as well. That Leviathan-like monster from the trailer is said to have an important role, as well.
The game’s servers will be able to hold a max population of 5,000 to 6,000 players at once.
Those debating on the PlayStation 3 or PC version and own the console may want to get the PlayStation 3 version because the PC specs are said to be quite high.
A beta test is on the way and the game will launch in 2010. Beta test won’t last too long, however.
